At Puratos, we are dedicated to creating a positive impact on society and we do not take this great responsibility lightly. With our commitments to you and to future generations, we are devoted to a holistic operating model: one that is sustainable, respectful, and balanced.

We understand the importance of taking good care of our planet and are committed to reducing, reusing, and recycling as much as we can. As such, we have set a series of clear sustainability goals: to become carbon neutral by 2025 for our operations, water-balanced by 2030, and zero-waste-to-landfill, worldwide, by 2030. These goals reflect our commitment to the future and our desire to minimize our environmental impact.

Puratos Committed to Fully Recyclable or Reusable Packaging by 2025

Sustainable packaging is a key aspect of our sustainability efforts. By 2025, we aim to make all of our packaging materials fully recyclable or reusable. Additionally, we are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our packaged products as much as possible. This initiative will not only help reduce Puratos's negative environmental footprint, but it will also encourage and enable our customers to reduce, reuse, and recycle packaging materials, thereby reducing their own climate impact.

What’s in it for our customers?

  1. Lower the environmental footprint of your products: Choosing suppliers that use and provide reusable or recyclable packaging, supports you in reducing the negative environmental impacts of your own packaging waste and significantly lowers the environmental footprint of your products and organization as a whole.
  2. Strengthen your brand reputation: You can improve your brand reputation by demonstrating to your customers that you care about the planet and are making a real effort to reduce your environmental footprint. Choosing sustainability-oriented ingredient suppliers, like Puratos, helps you improve the sustainability credentials and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers, who are increasingly looking for companies that align with their values. According to our Taste Tomorrow research, 61% of consumers globally agree that achieving zero waste is important, 43% mention upcycled ingredients and 60% care about their food being produced with care for the environment.
  3. Legal compliance: Comply with regulatory aspects and tax incentives on packaging in markets that have packaging waste reduction high on the agenda, helping to avoid fines and other legal consequences.

Puratos Innovates Packaging for a Better Planet and Customer Experience

At Puratos, we are making significant progress in developing sustainable packaging solutions. As a leading food ingredients supplier, we understand that food safety and preservation are top priorities, but we also recognize the importance of minimizing our environmental impact. That’s why we have made it a priority to shift to sustainable packaging that enhances the food preservation, protection, and full utilization of our ingredients, while offering maximum convenience to our customers.

The key benefits of our re-designed packaging are:

  • We reduce the amount of packaging waste at our customers by minimizing the amount of packaging materials we use to pack our products, therefore also preserving natural resources.
  • By designing our packaging as recyclable-ready and implementing reusable packaging such as pooling pallets, containers and crates, we are preventing single-use packaging materials from ending up in incineration or landfill, even when collection and recycling facilities are not yet developed locally.
  • In addition to preserving the freshness and quality of our ingredients, our sustainable packaging concepts also help reduce food waste through their functionality. Thanks to easy-to-open and easy-to-empty packaging technology, we can ensure that our ingredients are used to their full potential.
  • We are focused on minimizing the use of harmful resources in the production process of our packaging and maximizing the use of recyclable resources in our secondary and tertiary packaging, improving the whole product’s environmental footprint. You can learn more about it here. We are committed to using responsibly sourced packaging materials and reducing our reliance on non-renewable resources to minimize our environmental impact.

We are proud to drive the shift towards sustainable packaging within our industry and are committed to developing solutions that not only protect the environment but also provide ultimate convenience for our customers.

In our efforts, we are aligned with the recommendation from the Federation of European Manufacturers and Suppliers of Ingredients to the Bakery, Confectionery and Patisserie Industries on the matter of achieving sustainable packaging by 2025. We believe that to implement effective circularity within our industry, we need to collaborate, share our learnings and ultimately work together on achieving a better planet for all.
